Breaking news: Former England fast bowler and popular Sky Sports presenter Bob Willis dies, aged 70

England cricket legend and popular Sky Sports presenter Bob Willis has died at the age of 70 after a short illness.
The former pace bowler played in 90 Test matches for his country and took 325 wickets but his standout moment was undoubtedly the 'Miracle of Headingley' in the 1981 Ashes series.
His sensational bowling saw him end the third Test match of that series with figures of 8-43 as England went on to win the game.
Willis was at the forefront of England's Test bowling attack for over 10 years and also played in 64 one-day internationals. He retired in 1984 but then went on to have a successful career in broadcasting with Sky Sports.

Goochy's Willis impression was legendary... one game over chelmsford he came from behind the sightscreen .... he must have run half of mile by the time he got to the crease!

Felt like crying when I read this on BBC sports... Massive cricketing hero of mine and my brother. We'd watch him play for Warwickshire and England at Edgbaston... Tanking down the pitch curly hair bouncing as he ran.. Terrific bowler. Met him when he reopened a local pub very dry but funny bloke.
Another link between me and my brother who passed 25 years ago has gone.. RIP R. G. D Willis (Big Bad Bob)

My lasting memory of Bob Willis is that very recognisable run up when bowling and in particular from a test that in the late stages that was petering out to a draw and to pass the time and add a bit of fun to things the players were taking the piss out of each other, Alvin Kallicharran did his Bob Willis run up when bowling, the camera went to Bob on the balcony with a grin that seemed to say “you silly cunt Alvin”

Never seen a bowler as fired up as Willis was that day. Completely unplayable!
Only one I can compare to it was Devon Malcolm's at the oval v the Boks...

Had the strangest cover drive I have ever seen... went the full 360 degrees before hopefully hitting the ball... remember a stoic 24 (IIRC) he got batting 11 to see Peter Willey to one of the bravest centuries seen v the mighty 1980 Windies attack...

Sad news, not a great age really!
One of my most vivid sporting memories, is seeing him run in like a demented banshee at Headingley against the Aussies and knocking them over.

Saw the first debate show of the NZ tour and Colville said Bob was absent for a small operation. Hoped then he would be back, but alas not.
Remember him in a test, coming out to bat after tea. Gets halfway to the square and realises he's forgot his bat.
